... because music matters.

By JD Music, Feb 3 2018 02:25AM

JD Music took a short hiatus for the past 4 months while I concentrated on my own creativity (I do graphic design and have been honing my craft as a 3D artist).

I have always done everything on my own with JD Music (all the research into stations/magazines/etc; the actual promoting of the artists; the maintaining of the website - I actually have several to maintain; all the social media - which takes hours - and anything, and everything, else that goes with the promoting of music) and so you may appreciate how hard it sometimes is when you have nobody to turn to for advice/help with something.

Thus after 2 solid years of doing music 24/7 - I worked on it literally every day for many hours a day - I needed a break to do something for myself.

While I am trying to do something with my artwork, I will be reducing the amount of time I spend on music. I will also be sticking to only rock.

Coming up in 2018 will be a new track from Nuclear Lullaby; but before that in a couple of weeks will be the new single from World Vs. World and also a new track from Australia's Crawford Brothers.

My September fundraising event for my Guitars 4 Good project (re. childhood cancer awareness) is called ‘Gigging 4 Gold’: it’s a play on words (digging for gold); gold is the colour of the ribbon for childhood cancer awareness and the bands will in fact be gigging for gold (i.e., money).

Stereophonics’ PA, Natalie, has sent me an autographed photo of the band to sell/raffle on behalf of Guitars 4 Good. Aberdare of course is Stereophonics' home town. I plan to raffle the photo on the night of the gig.

The bands performing at the fundraiser are being interviewed over the 3 weeks leading up to the gig, on the Rock Show on Radio Tircoed, an FM radio station in Swansea which has a large audience.

I also have Solving Kids’ Cancer wristbands which will be sold on the night. The proceeds from which will go to a 5 year old Mia Chambers from the town next to mine, Merthyr Tydfil, who is suffering from neuroblastoma.

I'm honoured to have been asked to join the RT Rock Show team by writing for their website. The RT Rock Show airs on Radio Tircoed 106.5fm which is based in the Swansea area.

I've done an introductory blog for those who don't know what I do with JD Music, or Paradiddles Plectrums and Posers, or Guitars 4 Good.

I will then be spotlighting the amazing rock talent we have in Wales by writing about the bands I have worked with via both JD Music and/or Paradiddles Plectrums and Posers, probably once a month.

As I said in the previous post, the aim of Guitars 4 Good is to help children with cancer in various ways, such as with spirit boosting ‘goody bags’/gifts and ‘music as therapy’ sessions by way of acoustic performances by singer/guitarists on paediatric oncology wards.

In December I did my first personalised gifts. I thought of doing what I call 'comfort cushions' after seeing a photograph of 2 young sisters (one is in remission from cancer and the other is still fighting it) when they hadn't seen each other for 3 weeks, with their hands against the glass on the door. So I thought with their sister cushions they'll always be able to hug each other even if not in person. The 'comfort cushions' therefore will give both the physical comfort that a cushion gives and emotional comfort.

Below are screenshots of the photo their mother took along with the lovely comments and 'likes' (117) it got on Facebook and Twitter.

I paid for the cushions myself as Guitars 4 Good has no money yet. I have plans to do a fundraising gig in Aberdare with some bands I know but that will probably be in the summer.

If you'd like to see more big smiles like in the photo, then please donate something to Guitars 4 Good. If you can spare even £1, then that will be a help towards me being able to do more special gifts for these courageous children.
